Flowering Cactus

Recently had a lovely couple staying who had lived in Arizona and they got very excited when they saw our cactus in the conservatory! Apparently it is very rare to have a cactus split into two parts at the top – and much sought after in Arizona!!  It is worth about $1,000!!!!  Also, what makes it more special is that it is a night time bloomer – meaning the flowers which only appear every 40 years come out at night and only last a day.  I was lucky enough to catch the moment and could not believe how beautiful the flowers were – we had three in all. Afraid I will not be around to see the next flowering, but was delighted to get the chance to see it at least once!  I bought the cactus for Ian for his 21st birthday and it has been with us ever since – 42 years!! It only started to grow again when we moved to Scarborough so we think it must be very happy here, just as we are!!
